North Korea fires short-range ballistic missiles from Wonsan area
North Korea launched several short-range ballistic missiles from the Wonsan area toward the sea off its east coast early Saturday, South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said. The missiles flew about 250km and were tracked by South Korean and US authorities, who shared information with Japan. Seoul convened an emergency security meeting and urged Pyongyang to stop the launches, calling them a violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

Social worker Saleha Rashidi wins Merit Award at SSP 2026
Saleha Rashidi, manager of Rise Above Transitional House at 1 St George's Lane, Singapore, received a Merit Award at the Social Service Professionals Awards 2026 on 11 September. Mandai and Upper Jurong Road dormitory sites to be sold by 2027
Two purpose-built dormitory sites in Mandai and Upper Jurong Road will be put up for sale by the Government in 2027 on 30-year leases. The Mandai site in Lorong Lada Hitam 1 is expected to yield 15,000 beds, while the Upper Jurong Road site is estimated to yield 8,100 beds. The Ministry of Manpower and Ministry of National Development said the six dormitories will add about 48,300 beds by the early 2030s.

NParks removes six unhealthy tembusu trees at MacRitchie Reservoir Park
Six tembusu trees at MacRitchie Reservoir Park were removed by NParks on Sept 2 after inspections found them unhealthy, with decay and structural defects. The removals came to light after a Nature Society Singapore forum member posted photos of the stumps near the Paddle Lodge. NParks says native species will be planted to replace the trees.

Man, 51, found dead on bench in Jalan Besar alley; police investigating
A 51-year-old man was found motionless on a bench in an alley off Jalan Besar, Singapore, on Sep. 7 and pronounced dead at the scene. HDB playground design guidelines take effect, Woodlands upgrades under way
Singapore's Housing Board released playground design guidelines in December 2025 setting mandatory features for playgrounds in new Build-To-Order estates and those being redesigned or upgraded, including HDB public parks. The rules group play into physical, creative and social categories, and the first playground built to them, the Kingfisher, is coming to 628 Woodlands Ring Road as part of an estate upgrade. Other Woodlands playgrounds, including a chicken-themed one at 619 Woodlands Drive 52 and a crab tower at 631 Woodlands Ring Road, are also planned.

A property agent has raised concerns after people believed to be neighbours allegedly entered a Woodlands flat under renovation on two separate occasions, taking photos and walking through the kitchen and rooms. Chinese national jailed 8 months for grabbing S$50,000 from friend at Orchard Hotel
A 28-year-old Chinese national, Zhao Ziqi, was sentenced to eight months' jail for stealing S$50,000 from a friend at Orchard Hotel in Singapore. Zhao had asked to borrow the money, claiming gambling losses, but grabbed the cash and fled with his cousin. Police arrested the pair at Changi Airport as they tried to leave Singapore.
