Indonesian woman jailed for helping dispose of stolen gold ring in Kota Kinabalu
An undocumented Indonesian woman, Liana Bunganden, 48, was sentenced to nine months in jail by the Magistrate's Court in Kota Kinabalu for helping to dispose of a stolen gold ring at First Choice Gold Shop, Centre Point, on Aug 17. She pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 414 of the Penal Code. In a separate case, a man claimed trial for a similar offence involving stolen facial cleanser.

Baby proboscis monkey freed from car bonnet at Kota Kinabalu airport
A baby proboscis monkey was found trapped in the bonnet of a family's car at Kota Kinabalu International Airport on Sept 4. Civil Defence personnel freed the animal after a 34-minute operation. The monkey was likely hit by the car during the family's journey from Labuan and will be handed to the Sabah Wildlife Department.

Kota Kinabalu senior citizen faces 59 cheating charges over housing project scam
A 65-year-old man claimed trial in the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court to 59 charges of cheating a 50-year-old victim out of RM50 to RM20,000 for a fake housing project investment. The alleged offences occurred at bank branches in Kota Kinabalu and Penampang between 2016 and 2021. The court granted him RM30,000 bail with conditions including passport surrender.

18 illegals are jailed
The Sessions Court in Kota Kinabalu jailed 18 illegal immigrants for entering Sabah without valid passes. In a separate case, a Filipino man was sentenced to 10 months in jail and caning for illegal entry and re-entry after deportation.

A 34-year-old man was jailed a total of 31 months by the Magistrate's Court in Kota Kinabalu for two counts of housebreaking and theft in Penampang and Luyang. A second man, Wong Ming Teck, claimed trial for disposing of a stolen laptop linked to the case.

A 37-year-old man was charged in the Magistrate's Court in Kota Kinabalu with three counts of causing injury with a knife at Kg Muhibbah, Petagas, Putatan. In a separate case, two men were sentenced to seven months' jail for disposing of stolen gas cylinders in Jalan Kayu Madang.

Api-Api assemblyman urges DBKK to provide safe trolley routes before confiscations
Api-Api Assemblyman Loi Kok Liang has urged Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) to provide safe and practical trolley routes for traders at the Central Market before confiscating their trolleys. This follows a complaint from a food stall operator whose trolley was confiscated and a RM100 fee was required for its return. Loi also suggested upgrading the pedestrian bridge with a lift or ramp to help traders transport goods.
