Former Buycar2u director charged with 71 counts of cheating RM4.7mil
A former director of a used-car trading company, Kee Cher Kian, 34, pleaded not guilty at three Sessions Courts in Kuala Lumpur to 71 cheating charges involving RM4.7 million. The charges relate to businessman Wong Yoong Jed and transactions at several bank branches in Kuala Lumpur between 5 July and 3 August 2022. The court set bail totalling RM215,000 with one surety and fixed mention for 16 October.

Jamil Khir among five charged in Kuala Lumpur over Tabung Haji funds
In Kuala Lumpur, former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom pleaded not guilty to three charges involving RM860,308,770.51 of Tabung Haji funds. He is the latest of five people charged at the Sessions Court following the public release of the Tabung Haji RCI report in July.

Teen acquitted of schoolmate's murder after court finds him insane
The High Court in Shah Alam acquitted a 15-year-old boy of murdering his 16-year-old schoolmate at a secondary school in Bandar Utama last year, ruling he was of unsound mind at the time. Judge Adlin Abdul Majid ordered him detained and treated at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak at the pleasure of the Sultan of Selangor. His lawyer said the defence proved insanity under Section 84 of the Penal Code and the prosecution failed to rebut it.

Malaysia SMART team returns from Nepal flood mission, all 11 in good health
The Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) arrived back in Malaysia at 2am today after its humanitarian and disaster relief mission in Nepal. The 11-member team departed Kathmandu on an RMAF A400M aircraft with a refuelling stop in Kolkata, and was confirmed in good health after health screenings at RMAF Subang Air Base. Its drones and other equipment were handed over to Nepali rescue teams searching for flash flood and landslide victims.

KL City hope visa issues for two imports cleared this week
KL City are hoping visa problems for new imports Fareed Sadat and Joseph Adjel will be resolved this week, according to KLFA president Syed Yazid Syed Omar. The issue surfaced after Fareed's absence in a 3-0 defeat to Selangor at MBPJ Stadium on Sunday, which saw Selangor strengthen their grip as Kings of the Klang Valley.

22nd Japanese Film Festival screens 14 films across five cities
The 22nd Japanese Film Festival began on 8 September in the Klang Valley before travelling to George Town, Johor Bahru, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu until 18 October. Fourteen Japanese films are being shown, including a retrospective of director Yamada Yoji and a Girl Power programme, with special Kokuho screenings at GSC Mid Valley and GSC MyTOWN.

Ameerul Eqhwan saves KL City from a heavier defeat
KL City lost 0-3 to Selangor in the Klang Valley derby at MBPJ Stadium last night. Head coach Dollah Salleh said goalkeeper Ameerul Eqhwan Mohd Fauzi saved his team from conceding more than five goals, and blamed a weak midfield for the defeat.

Mida: data centre growth must build local supply chain value
At the Data Centre Nexus 2026 conference at Hilton Kuala Lumpur, Mida chairman Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said Malaysia's RM385.7 billion in data centre investments from 2021 to mid-2026 must translate into lasting gains for local businesses and SMEs. Panellists called for greater Malaysian participation in renewable energy and higher-value services rather than just supplying land, power and water.

Selangor defeated KL City 3-0 at the MBPJ Stadium in Petaling Jaya on Sunday, with goals from A. Selvan, Chrigor Moraes and Eduardo Sosa in front of about 5,000 home fans. The win keeps Selangor third in the Super League on 12 points, behind Johor Darul Ta'zim and Kuching City. In Kota Kinabalu, Sabah lost 2-1 to DPMM at Likas Stadium, their second straight defeat.

The Sarawak Badminton Association has given performance incentives to Genevie Lim and Isyraf Hafizin after their podium finishes at the PETRONAS Malaysia International Series 2026. Irvine wins women's and mixed doubles at Leapmotor KL Cup
American Jessie Irvine won both the women's and mixed doubles titles at the Leapmotor Kuala Lumpur Cup at The Hood in Kuala Lumpur. She and Alix Truong beat the Australian pair Sahra Dennehy and Danni-elle Townsend in the women's final, then Irvine partnered Bolivia's Gabriel Tardio to take the mixed doubles against Townsend and Joey Wild.

Jamil Khir to be charged in KL Sessions Court tomorrow
Former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom will be charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court tomorrow over the Tabung Haji RCI report. The MACC had earlier detained and remanded him, and recommended three charges under Section 403 of the Penal Code.

Parliament open day draws 11,280 visitors, beating target
A two-day Parliament open day that began yesterday drew 11,280 visitors, above the initial target of 10,000. Dewan Negara president Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah said it was the programme's best showing since it began in 2023. The event aims to bring Parliament closer to the people by letting the public see the proceedings inside the Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara.

Man stabbed in the back while working at Kuala Lumpur Wholesale Market
A man in his 30s was stabbed in the back with a sharp metal object while working at the Kuala Lumpur Wholesale Market yesterday morning. He was taken to Selayang Hospital and is in stable condition, and police in Sentul are investigating the motive. A 47-second video of the injured man went viral on social media.

American 15-year-old Tama Shimabukuro beat France's Noe Khlif 11-8, 11-5 to win the men's singles at the Leapmotor Kuala Lumpur Cup, held at The Hood in Kuala Lumpur. Shimabukuro had earlier beaten Malaysian No. 1 Jimmy Liong 12-10, 11-4 in the round of 16.
