Lab results awaited after mass fish deaths in Sarawak River near Kuching Waterfront
Large numbers of fish were found dead along the Sarawak River near the Kuching Waterfront and Kampung Gersik-Boyan on Saturday morning. State agencies including NREB, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Fisheries have taken water and fish samples for laboratory analysis. Deputy Minister Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the cause cannot yet be speculated on and promised a thorough investigation.

5,000 acres in Beaufort proposed as paddy granary
A 5,000-acre area stretching from Kampung Indomadi to Kampung Sungai Padas in Beaufort, Sabah has been proposed for gazettement as a paddy granary. Sabah Assistant Agriculture Minister Datuk Ruslan Muharam said the area could be developed with modern farming methods to raise rice output and strengthen Sabah's food security. He also inspected a 500-acre site in Kampung Indomadi proposed as a sago palm area.

Police seize RM785,263.50 in liquor, arrest eight in Beaufort smuggling bust
Police in Beaufort, Sabah busted a liquor smuggling syndicate, seizing 650 cartons of liquor worth RM785,263.50 and arresting eight people. Three lorries were also seized in the operation, which involved the Bukit Aman Wildlife Crime/Intelligence Special Investigation Bureau and the Beaufort Criminal Investigation Division. The syndicate is believed to have used river channels around Menumbok and Kuala Penyu to evade authorities.

Cop charged with four counts of sexual assault on underage girl in Beaufort
A 46-year-old police corporal was charged in the Kota Kinabalu Sessions Court with four counts of physical sexual assault against a girl who was 14 and 15 at the time. The alleged offences took place in Beaufort between February 2024 and July 2025. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of RM6,000 per charge.

Crocodile that bit Kg Lubok Weston man caught, killed in Sungai Siungau
A 10-foot female crocodile believed to have bitten a resident of Kampung Lubok Weston in Beaufort was hooked in Sungai Siungau and shot dead by Wildlife Department officers on Tuesday. The villager survived last week's attack after a friend struck the reptile's head, and the village chief said residents are relieved but warned that more crocodiles remain in the river.

Police seize RM785,263 in untaxed liquor, arrest eight in Beaufort
Beaufort police detained eight people and seized 650 cartons of untaxed liquor and three lorries worth an estimated RM785,263.50. The syndicate is believed to have used river channels, estuaries and coastal routes around Menumbok and Kuala Penyu to evade authorities. The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.

She presented a RM3,000 cheque, two electric hospital beds and two heavy-duty reclining wheelchairs to the Women's Affairs Committee of Kota Kinabalu City Mosque, plus cash, food baskets and necessities to COTI patients in Tanjung Aru.

Couple and son charged in Kota Kinabalu with trafficking three children for forced labour
A 54-year-old shop owner, her husband and their son were charged in the Sessions Court in Kota Kinabalu on Wednesday with seven counts of trafficking three undocumented children for forced labour exploitation. The alleged offences took place at a mini market in Kampung Melaman, Sipitang, between 2019 and April this year. All three pleaded not guilty and were granted bail of RM3,000 per charge, with pre-trial case management set for Oct 14.

MACC proposes 13 governance reforms for Labuan FSA and Labuan IBFC
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's Governance Investigation Division presented 13 governance improvement recommendations to Labuan Financial Services Authority (Labuan FSA) and Labuan International Business and Financial Centre Incorporated Sdn. Bhd. (Labuan IBFC Inc.). The recommendations focus on transparency, internal controls, risk management and audit trails. Teen motorcyclist dies after crashing into road barrier in Beaufort
A teenage boy died on Sunday night after his motorcycle crashed into a road barrier along Jalan Kampung Betanduk towards Kota Klias in Beaufort, Sabah. Police received a report at 8.14pm and confirmed the victim died at the scene. In separate incidents, police detained a man for drug possession in Kampung Nukahan and a woman for illegal gambling in Papar.

Two houses destroyed in fire at Kampung Ranau-Ranau, Sipitang
Two houses were destroyed in a fire at Kampung Ranau-Ranau in Sipitang, Sabah, on Sunday evening. No injuries were reported. Firefighters from the Sipitang station brought the blaze under control within about 43 minutes of the emergency call.

NGO raises RM10k for the needy
The Wheels of Love Project, a joint initiative by JCI Kota Kinabalu and the Lions Club of Luyang A.C.E., raised over RM10,000 to provide mobility and medical equipment for the needy in Sabah. The equipment was delivered to homes in Kota Kinabalu, Luyang, and Papar by the end of August.
