Chef dies after bicycle wheel caught in drain cover gap in Bukit Beruang
A 36-year-old chef, Ahmad Shasli Hassan, died after his bicycle's front wheel caught in the gap of an iron drain cover in Bukit Beruang, Melaka, causing him to fall and suffer severe head and facial injuries. The incident occurred at about 7.10pm on Monday, September 14; he was taken to Melaka Hospital and died at about 9pm, confirmed by the Melaka Tengah district police chief.

SMK Ghafar Baba wins Melaka pantun competition, advances to Southern Zone final in Johor Bahru
SMK Ghafar Baba emerged champion of the 2026 DRB-HICOM-Harian Metro Proverb-themed Pantun Competition at the Melaka state level, held in Banda Hilir. The school will represent Melaka at the Southern Zone final at Maktab Abu Bakar in Johor Bahru on Sept 29. More than 300 students attended the competition, which was judged by four professionals.

Lorry driver jailed 9 years, caned 5 times for raping sister-in-law
A 38-year-old lorry driver was sentenced by the Muar Sessions Court to nine years in jail and five strokes of the cane after pleading guilty to raping his 16-year-old sister-in-law in July 2024. The assault took place at a house in Batu Pahat and the victim later gave birth to a baby boy.

Police have classified the discovery of a skeleton inside a blue barrel sealed with cement at the Durian Tunggal dam reserve in Machap Baru, Alor Gajah, as a murder case. Negri Sembilan DKU declares April proclamation invalid
The Negri Sembilan Dewan Keadilan dan Undang has declared the April 19, 2026 proclamation on the abdication of Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir unconstitutional and invalid. Dance teacher in Melaka remanded five days over sexual assault of two students
A 20-year-old dance teacher in Melaka has been remanded for five days to assist investigations into the physical sexual assault of two teenage boys who were also his students. The first case is believed to have occurred since 4 September at the suspect's home and the Tasik 1 Krubong area, while the second involves a 15-year-old victim who knew the suspect as a dance coach. Police are investigating under the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.
