Penang defends Taman Manggis PPR evictions, says units needed for genuinely poor
The Penang state government has defended its phased eviction of residents from the Taman Manggis People's Housing Project (PPR) in George Town, saying background checks found some residents owned luxury vehicles and businesses. MRT Corp announced that Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in George Town will have a 322-day traffic diversion from Sept 12, 2026 to July 31, 2027 for piling and structural works on the Mutiara Line LRT. Jalan Magazine will also be partially closed from 10pm on Sept 14 to 5am on Oct 5 for road widening and utility relocation.

Chinese national pleads not guilty to kidnapping compatriot in Alor Setar
A 27-year-old Chinese man, Wang Hao, pleaded not guilty at the Alor Setar Sessions Court to kidnapping a 33-year-old Chinese woman at a house in Taman Amira, Jalan Langgar, on Aug 7. The judge denied bail and set Oct 11 for mention. The case follows an Aug 8 police raid in which two suspects were shot dead and six people were arrested across Kedah, Penang and Kuala Lumpur.

Final report on Penang ferry collision to be finalised after probe
The final report on the September 1 collision between MV Mekar Jaya and the Teluk Bahang ferry in Penang waters will be finalised after the investigation is complete. A joint investigation committee involving the Marine Department, the Penang Port Commission and Penang Port Sdn Bhd is identifying the cause. 21 passengers were initially reported injured.

The premises was run by foreign workers who could not produce identification, and MBPP seized 38 laundry baskets and equipment blocking the public walkway. KPDN also issued compounds totaling RM500 for an expired weighing machine and lack of price display.
