Telecommunications coverage in Papar, Sabah, has reached 99.61 per cent, with only 0.39 per cent remaining, particularly in the Limbahau state seat. The improvement follows government efforts through the National Digital Network (Jendela) programme, which has completed 10 towers in Phase 1 and will add six more facilities in Phase 2.

Two charged in Kepayan with trafficking 1.4kg of syabu
Two men, including an undocumented immigrant, pleaded not guilty at the High Court in Kota Kinabalu to trafficking 1,418.1g of syabu at a car park in Lorong Pusat Komersil 88, Kepayan, on May 11. A babysitter also claimed trial at the Sessions Court to allowing another person to control a bank account registered in her name in Penampang.

Undocumented Filipino jailed 30 years, caned 12 times for syabu trafficking in Tuaran
A 33-year-old undocumented Filipino man was sentenced to 30 years in jail and 12 strokes of the cane by the High Court in Kota Kinabalu for trafficking 475.1g of syabu. The offence took place on July 4, 2023 in front of Restoran Farvis, Taman Telipok Ria, Tuaran. Judicial Commissioner Ratanah Devi Yusof Perumal ruled the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.

Undocumented man denies impersonating Immigration officer, extorting RM1,500 in Penampang
An undocumented immigrant, Ratno William Foo, claimed trial at the Kota Kinabalu Magistrate's Court to four charges, including impersonating an Immigration enforcement officer and extorting RM1,500 from a passport holder. The alleged offences took place at a house in Kampung Koidupan Sugud, Penampang, early on Aug 28. The court fixed Oct 15 for mention and ordered him remanded.

Wife tells Sabah corruption court she knew of RM275,550 deposits
In the Special Corruption Court in Kota Kinabalu, the first wife of former Sabah Railway Department chief engineer Ismail Ahmad testified that she knew about RM275,550 deposited into their joint HSBC account in 2016 but denied the money came from unlawful sources. Muhilim @ Masniah Buaya also admitted signing RM900,000 in personal loan agreements and failing to declare at least 10 properties to Yayasan Sabah.

Kabang Water Intake upgrade 94 pct done, 21-day push to finish
The Kabang Water Intake upgrading project in Papar, Sabah has reached 94 per cent physical completion, with a 21-day acceleration plan to finish critical works. The upgrade will raise capacity from nine million to 30 million litres a day, serving as an alternative raw water source for the Limbahau Water Treatment Plant and the Emergency Water Supply Scheme. Officials including Papar MP Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Joachim Gunsalam inspected the site on Monday.

Sabah Malaysia Day celebration moved indoors to SICC over weather concerns
The Sabah-level Malaysia Day celebration on Sept 16 will be held at the Sabah International Convention Centre in Kota Kinabalu instead of Padang Merdeka due to unpredictable weather and safety concerns. Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the decision follows last year's rain disruption, with about 3,000 people expected. The national celebration will be in Kuching, Sarawak.

Sabah government studies three sites for Kota Kinabalu central market relocation
The Sabah government is considering three locations to move the Kota Kinabalu central market out of the city centre. Businesswoman fined RM20,000 for tampering with SE meter at Penampang store
A 40-year-old businesswoman was fined RM20,000 by the Sessions Court in Kota Kinabalu after pleading guilty to tampering with a Sabah Electricity meter at her grocery store in Penampang. The court heard a bypass cable was found behind the meter, causing RM10,648.02 in revenue losses between October 2024 and January this year.

Teacher dies after pickup crashes into seven vehicles at Kota Kinabalu traffic lights
A teacher was killed after the Toyota Hilux he was driving skidded and crashed into seven vehicles near a traffic light junction on Jalan Kolam, Kota Kinabalu, at about 6am. The victim, Arizal Wahid, 43, was on his way to SK Sembulan and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are seeking witnesses to contact the investigating officer.

500 attend smart farming and black pepper course in Tambunan
More than 500 people joined a smart farming and black pepper cultivation course in Tambunan, Sabah, organised by Sawit Kinabalu. The course, held for the first time at SMK Tambunan, introduced farmers and agro-entrepreneurs to technology such as smartphones and CCTV for crop monitoring. Deputy Chairman Datuk Victor P Paut said the approach, inspired by farming in Hokkaido, Japan, could help Tambunan become a modern agricultural hub.

German man gets 12 months' jail in Kota Kinabalu for illegal entry and obstructing immigration officer
A 40-year-old German national, Kuecuekboga Suleyman, was sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment by the Sessions Court in Kota Kinabalu on two counts of entering Sabah illegally and obstructing an immigration officer. He changed his plea to guilty midway through his trial, receiving six months' jail for each charge, to run consecutively from the date of conviction.

Indonesian carpenter hurt as iron piece pierces foot in Tambunan
An Indonesian carpenter was injured in Tambunan, Sabah, on Monday morning when a piece of iron pierced his foot while he was doing carpentry work on a house. Firefighters from the Tambunan Fire and Rescue Station were called to Tambunan Hospital to cut the metal out, and he was handed to Health Ministry staff for further treatment.
