Singapore residents can expect roughly nine years of poor health at the end of their lives, a gap between lifespan and health span that the AIA Healthcare Summit 2026 discussed on Aug 12 at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore. The summit brought over 700 government, academic and healthcare figures together under the theme Purposeful Longevity. NUS undergrad first in Singapore to get new defibrillator under breastbone
A 19-year-old National University of Singapore undergraduate who suffered a cardiac arrest at his camp's medical centre has become one of the first patients in Singapore to receive an extravascular implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (EV-ICD). The device, implanted under the breastbone at the National University Hospital, delivers shocks to restore normal heart rhythm.

17 doctors and dentists receive Eminent Academician title in Singapore
Seventeen pioneering doctors and dentists received the Eminent Academician title from the Academy of Medicine, Singapore, on Sept 12. The honour went to figures including emergency medicine professor Venkataraman Anantharaman and paediatrician Phua Kong Boo, who led rotavirus vaccine trials. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung said the title recognises a lifetime of contributions to Singapore's healthcare system.
