Roti Mokhtar remains Slim River's icon since 1949

Roti Mokhtar, a legendary bread from Slim River, Perak, has been a local icon since 1949, still baked in a 77-year-old brick oven using firewood and coconut shells. Owner Mokhtar Amat Mohammad Taqi, 63, continues his family's tradition, producing about 900 loaves daily and attracting both local and foreign tourists. The bakery recently received support from the Perak Agriculture Department to boost production capacity.
