Six Malaysian men have been jailed in Singapore for an armed gang robbery at a King Albert Park bungalow during a poker game on April 18, 2024, stealing about S$4.9 million in cash, watches and cryptocurrency. Sentences ranged from seven years eight months to 12 years 11 months, with five receiving 24 strokes of the cane. Singapore Police recovered about S$1.69 million, leaving roughly S$3.21 million unrecovered, and one suspect remains at large.

Tamil youth festival stages 'Tamil Voice' drama at Ngee Ann Polytechnic
A 'Tamil Voice - True Form Youth' event was held at Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore on September 11 as part of the Tamil Youth Festival. Organised by the National Institute of Early Childhood Development, Ngee Ann Polytechnic and the Tamil Language Movement, youths showcased songs, dances and a drama on Tamil identity. More than 80 students registered.

The National University Health System's Appropriate and Value-Based Care approach has helped more than 300,000 patients since 2015, avoiding 18,225 hospital days and saving over $13 million yearly. A symposium marking the decade was held on 15 September with Minister of State Rahayu Mahzam as guest of honour.

A five-year-old boy in Singapore with Type 1 diabetes depends on insulin for life, but his condition is managed at home with guidance from National University Hospital care teams. The National University Health System's Appropriate and Value-Based Care approach, introduced in 2015, has benefited more than 300,000 patients and marks its tenth year at the AVBC 2026 Symposium on 15 September.

Smoke from faulty brake forces evacuation of train at Bukit Gombak MRT station
Passengers were evacuated from a train at Bukit Gombak MRT station on Sept 15 after smoke was seen coming from below the train. SMRT said preliminary checks suggest a faulty brake caused the smoke, and the train was withdrawn to the depot. No commuters needed medical assistance and services continued normally.

Trevor Noah adds Nov 4 Singapore show at The Star Theatre
Trevor Noah has added a second Singapore performance on Nov 4 at The Star Theatre, following his previously announced Nov 3 show, as part of the Just For Laughs Singapore comedy festival. Organiser Bohm Presents said tickets for the new date are on sale via Sistic at S$128 to S$268, and Noah will also play extra shows in Hong Kong and Malaysia.

Malcolm Todd to play first Singapore show at The Star Theatre on Nov 30
American singer-songwriter Malcolm Todd will perform in Singapore for the first time on Nov 30 at The Star Theatre, as part of his Do That Again World Tour. The Singapore date was announced on Monday, with tickets going on sale in phases from Sep 21. The Asia leg also includes Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, Seoul, Tokyo and Taipei.

Binjai Crest resident loses bid to remove security barrier, ordered to pay S$8,000
A resident of Binjai Crest, a strata landed estate in Bukit Timah, Singapore, failed to get the Strata Titles Board to order the removal of a security barrier installed at the main entrance. The board ruled the management corporation was managing common property and did not need a special resolution, and ordered Tay Jia Sheng to pay S$8,000 in legal costs.

King Albert Park bungalow robbery: six jailed
Six men were jailed on Monday over an armed robbery at a luxury bungalow in Singapore's King Albert Park area in 2024, in which $4.9 million in assets were stolen. The gang fled Singapore immediately and moved the loot to Malaysia. A seventh suspect is still at large and is believed to be in Thailand.

Bukit Panjang condo MCST sues developer and four others over balcony concrete fall
The management corporation of Foresque Residences in Bukit Panjang is suing the developer, architect, structural engineer, railing engineer and subcontractor over alleged construction defects after a piece of concrete fell 20m from a third-floor balcony in February 2025. Tests later found about 60 per cent of balcony slab edges at Block 105 produced hollow sounds. The defendants have filed defences at the High Court denying liability.

Worker, 35, dies at Jurong Port Road site after being hit by compressed air hose
A 35-year-old construction worker died at a worksite at 37 Jurong Port Road on Sep. 11 after being struck by a hose connected to a compressed air pump during foundation works. The Ministry of Manpower identified Keller Foundations (S E Asia) Pte Ltd as occupier and employer, and has instructed the company to stop all concreting works while it investigates.

A 35-year-old worker died on Sept 11 after being struck by a hose connected to a compressed air pump at a construction site at 37 Jurong Port Road. The Ministry of Manpower has identified Keller Foundations (S E Asia) as the employer and occupier, and has ordered concreting works at the site to stop while it investigates. It is the second workplace death at a Jurong Port Road construction site in recent months, after a 23-year-old Bangladeshi worker was killed by falling scaffolding on Aug 3.

The device, implanted under the breastbone at the National University Hospital, delivers shocks to restore normal heart rhythm.

NTU team gets US$100,000 from OpenAI for AI policy prediction tool
Four researchers at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore are building an AI tool that predicts how economic policies such as cash handouts affect spending. The project is one of 14 worldwide selected from over 400 submissions to OpenAI's April call for proposals, and will receive US$100,000 (S$126,800) for six months of development and testing. The system is trained on anonymised transaction data from more than a million users of a South Korean budgeting app.

Singapore's top medical award goes to 17 doctors including Prof Anantharaman
Seventeen pioneer doctors and dentists, including emergency medicine pioneer Prof Venkataraman Anantharaman and paediatrician Dr Bua Kong Poh, received the Eminent Academician title from the Singapore Medical Academy. The ceremony was held at the Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine's medical sciences building on September 12, with Health Minister Ong Ye Kung speaking.

A burst underground pipe in Bukit Batok early on Sept 12 temporarily cut water supply to three blocks, including a home and 11 shophouse units. The town council isolated the pipe, restored supply to the home, and installed a temporary surface pipe for commercial units. Repairs are expected to take two to three days.

Hong Kong principal sues school over sacking after Jurong guard row
A Hong Kong secondary school principal who was filmed shouting at security guards in Jurong on May 22 is suing his former school for wrongful termination. Lee Cheuk-hing, formerly of San Wui Commercial Society Secondary School in Tuen Mun, is seeking about HK$902,867 after the school dismissed him with immediate effect instead of accepting his resignation. The case is due to go on trial in December.

Masjid Ar-Raudhah in Bukit Batok still needs about $2.8 million to cover the rest of its Mosque Upgrading Project, which began on 13 July. 52 Singaporeans held in China; actress and influencer allegedly at linked Singapore networking sessions
Singapore's MFA said 52 Singaporeans were arrested and detained in Guangxi, China, in a law enforcement operation against suspected pyramid scheme activities. A Mothership reader said he attended two networking sessions in Singapore linked to the alleged scheme, including one at a bar along Alexandra Road in March 2026 where he allegedly met a Singaporean actress and a car influencer.

Woman sues Sheng Siong over trolley of rice hitting her at Clementi outlet
A woman is suing Sheng Siong and one of its employees over an incident at the supermarket's Clementi West Street 2 outlet on Mar 11, 2021, where a trolley loaded with bags of rice allegedly struck her from behind. Ms Dong Lihua claims injuries to her left foot and back, and says the incident worsened a degenerative disc condition; she is seeking about S$11,000 in medical and transport expenses plus damages. Sheng Siong denies negligence and says her own negligence caused or contributed to the injuries.

Chinese national admits breaking into ex-boyfriend's home, tried to grab police gun
A 30-year-old Chinese national pleaded guilty on Wednesday to breaking into her ex-boyfriend's mansion on Swettenham Road and attempting to grab a police officer's gun to harm herself. She had also allegedly broken into the same home in September 2024. Sentencing is set for September 15.
