Haze from Indonesia wildfires blankets Singapore, Malaysia
Smoke from wildfires in Indonesia has pushed Singapore's air quality to unhealthy levels across all five regions for the first time since 2019. Malaysia has also been hit, with the National Day speech moved indoors in late August and a state of emergency declared for part of Sarawak. The ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre warns the transboundary haze risk will stay escalated.

Sri Aman API improves to 80, five Sarawak areas still unhealthy
Air quality in Sri Aman improved to a moderate API of 80 at 9am Tuesday, down from an unhealthy 168 on Monday afternoon. Five Sarawak locations remain unhealthy: Lubok Antu, Tebedu, Serian, Samarahan and Kuching. Several other divisions recorded moderate readings, with Bario the only location in the good range.

Singapore braces for smoke haze as PSI climbs to 145
Singapore is expected to be hit by smoke haze in the coming days, with the 24-hour PSI forecast to range from high moderate to mid unhealthy. The National Environment Agency said the haze is caused by smoke plumes from fires in Kalimantan and southern Sumatra drifting towards Singapore on southeast winds.

Singapore air quality unhealthy in all five regions, central PSI hits 154
Air quality in all five regions of Singapore entered the unhealthy range on Tuesday, the first time since September 2019. The central region recorded the worst 24-hour PSI at 154 as of 6am, with smoke haze from fires in Kalimantan and southern Sumatra drifting in on east-southeast winds. NEA expects dry conditions and continued haze in the coming days.

Haze: Johor Family Day Carnival postponed, says Raja Permaisuri Agong
Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah ordered the Johor Family Day Carnival, scheduled for 16 September, to be postponed due to worsening haze in Johor. Several districts in Johor recorded unhealthy API readings, including Pasir Gudang (162) and Larkin (159).

Singapore PSI hits 126 as haze worsens air quality
Air quality in central Singapore deteriorated to unhealthy levels on 14 September, with the 24-hour PSI reaching 126 at 8pm. The east and west also recorded unhealthy readings, while the north and south remained moderate. NEA linked the haze to fires in Kalimantan and southern Sumatra, warning the risk persists with southeasterly winds.

Betong, Lubok Antu air quality improves; Samarahan, Serian, Kuching still unhealthy
Air quality in Betong and Lubok Antu improved by 4pm on Sept 14, with Betong dropping to Moderate and Lubok Antu easing from Very Unhealthy to Unhealthy. However, Samarahan, Serian and Kuching recorded worsening or persistently unhealthy API readings, while most other Sarawak stations saw slight declines.

Pasir Gudang API at 152 as haze covers parts of Johor
Haze blanketed parts of Johor, with Pasir Gudang recording an unhealthy Air Pollutant Index of 152. Larkin also hit unhealthy levels at 150, while Pengerang, Tangkak, Kluang and Kota Tinggi recorded moderate to unhealthy readings. The state Environment Department is monitoring hourly and will act as needed.

Haze from Sumatra and Kalimantan spreads to Singapore, southern Vietnam and Sarawak
Transboundary smoke haze was observed over Singapore and reached as far as southern Vietnam on Monday morning, the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre said. Moderate to dense haze was detected in central and southern Sumatra, West and Central Kalimantan, parts of Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia, with Singapore's central region recording an unhealthy 24-hour PSI of 102.

Serian records country's worst API reading at 173, Sri Aman 172
IPD Serian recorded the country's highest air pollutant index (API) reading at 173 as of 8am, remaining in the unhealthy category. Sri Aman followed at 172 and Kuching at 132, while several areas in the peninsula also recorded unhealthy readings including Johan Setia (158) and Cheras (152).

Samarahan API falls to 98, Lubok Antu stays very unhealthy
Air quality in Samarahan improved as its API dropped to 98 at 8am Monday from 147 at 9pm Sunday. Kanowit and Lundu also left the unhealthy zone, while Lubok Antu remained very unhealthy at 205. Several other Sarawak areas stayed unhealthy.

Cloud seeding in five Sarawak divisions to ease haze, raise dam levels
Cloud seeding operations are being carried out in five Sarawak divisions - Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Kapit and Limbang - to induce rain and ease haze while raising dam water levels. The third series this year ran from 3 to 5 September and was extended to Monday, involving NADMA, METMalaysia and the air force. Sarawak's METMalaysia director said the operation depends on atmospheric conditions and suitable cumulus clouds.

MetMalaysia has issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds across seven states and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur until 9pm today. Affected areas include Kulim, Bandar Baharu, Baling and Sik in Kedah; Hulu Perak, Selama and Muallim in Perak; several districts in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Selangor; and Sibu, Sarikei, Betong, Mukah and Kapit (Song) in Sarawak.

Haze eases in Sarawak as no station records very unhealthy API at 5pm
Air quality in Sarawak improved by 5pm on September 13, with no monitoring station recording very unhealthy API levels. Lubok Antu, previously the only station in the very unhealthy category, dropped to 198, while other areas like Serian and Sri Aman also saw improvements. Residents in unhealthy areas are advised to limit outdoor activities.

Sibu air quality improves to moderate as Sarawak haze eases slightly
Sibu's Air Pollutant Index dropped to 99 at noon on Sept 13, moving it from unhealthy to moderate as haze conditions improved slightly across parts of Sarawak. Lubok Antu remained the only station with very unhealthy air at 201, while Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Kuching and Samarahan stayed unhealthy. Residents in affected areas were advised to cut outdoor activities.

Selangor API readings improve, Sarawak still unhealthy
Air quality in Selangor improved on Sunday morning, with all six monitoring stations recording moderate API readings. Johan Setia had the highest at 95, while Kuala Selangor was lowest at 65. However, five locations in Sarawak remained at unhealthy levels, with IPD Serian recording 189.

Malaysian Thoracic Society: Sarawak worst hit by haze, urges action before next emergency
The Malaysian Thoracic Society has called on the government to boost public awareness and enforcement as haze pushes air quality to unhealthy levels, with Sarawak bearing the brunt. Kuching, Serian, Sri Aman and Samarahan recorded very unhealthy API readings earlier this week, and unhealthy levels were also seen in parts of Sabah, Johor and Labuan. The society blamed transboundary smoke from fires in Kalimantan and Sumatera and urged regional cooperation, real-time monitoring and accountability.

Clearer skies have returned to parts of Malaysia, but parents in Petaling Jaya and Shah Alam remain cautious about the haze and possible school closures. In Sarawak, schools in Serian and Lubok Antu stay shut until API readings fall below 200, under the National Haze Action Plan.

KLFF and Luna Lights Wonderland in Kuching reopen as haze eases
The Kuching Lights & Floral Festival (KLFF) and Luna Lights Wonderland reopen to the public in Kuching today. Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) said the reopening follows an improvement in the haze in the city compared with two weeks ago. Visitors are advised to wear face masks, carry enough drinking water and check air quality readings before going.

Schools in Serian and Lubok Antu remain closed until API drops below 200
The Sarawak State Education Department has extended the temporary closure of schools in Serian and Lubok Antu until the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading in both districts falls below 200. Meanwhile, 12 other districts in Sarawak will operate as usual starting next Monday. Face masks will be distributed to affected students and school staff due to the haze.

Air quality in Sarawak improved slightly on Saturday afternoon but Serian and Lubok Antu remained in the Very Unhealthy category with API readings of 236 and 216. Lundu and Tebedu moved out of Very Unhealthy, while Bintulu and Sibu improved to Moderate. Several other areas including Sri Aman, Samarahan, Kuching, Kanowit, Sarikei and Betong stayed Unhealthy.

MetMalaysia: Thunderstorms, heavy rain in Sarawak, Sabah and northern states until 5pm
MetMalaysia issued a weather warning at 2pm on Saturday for thunderstorms and heavy rain across parts of Sarawak and Sabah, plus Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak, valid until 5pm. In Sarawak the warning covers Kapit, Betong, Sri Aman, Kuching, Samarahan, Limbang, Bintulu and Miri; in Sabah it covers Tambunan, Sipitang, Tuaran, Kota Belud, Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Putatan and Papar.

Serian records API 258 as Sarawak stays worst hit by haze
No area in Malaysia recorded a hazardous Air Pollutant Index reading as of 9am, according to the APIMS portal. Serian in Sarawak had the highest reading at 258, or very unhealthy, while eight other Sarawak areas including Sri Aman, Samarahan and Kuching recorded unhealthy air. Heavy rain in parts of the peninsula is believed to be why skies there are clearer.

Serian API hits 260 as four Sarawak areas record very unhealthy air
Air quality in Serian, Sarawak, deteriorated to a very unhealthy API of 260 by 8am on September 12, up from 218 the previous afternoon. Tebedu, Lundu and Lubok Antu also recorded very unhealthy readings of 219, 217 and 217 respectively. Several other Sarawak areas remained in the unhealthy range, while Miri and ILP Miri improved to moderate levels.
