Sarawak and MPC launch cross-border operations guide for Sarawak-Brunei-Sabah travel
Sarawak's Transport Ministry and the Malaysia Productivity Corporation launched a cross-border operations guide in Kuching to simplify goods and passenger movement between Sarawak, Brunei and Sabah. Transport Minister Lee Kim Shin said the guide consolidates key requirements, documents and permits, and should be kept updated as regulations and operations change.

Nanta: Public asset maintenance must be a national priority

Hannah: Putrajaya must focus on asset maintenance for next 30 years
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh said Putrajaya must shift its development focus after its first three decades to caring for and managing existing assets. She said maintenance must be planned earlier using data and Building Information Modelling (BIM) to prevent larger costs. The Putrajaya BIM Direction 2050 aims for smart asset management and a Digital Twin of Putrajaya.

Woodlands North RTS station finished, cross-border service set for 2027
Singapore's Land Transport Authority said on Sept 4 that the Woodlands North station on the Johor Bahru-Singapore RTS Link is complete, keeping the line on track to start passenger service in 2027. The 4km link will join Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru to Woodlands North, where travellers can transfer to the Thomson-East Coast MRT Line, with capacity for 10,000 passengers an hour each way. Transport Minister Anthony Loke said Malaysian-side station and rail infrastructure is finished and integration testing between the two countries has begun.

Abang Johari urges ASEAN to agree on one energy grid framework
Sarawak Premier Abang Johari Tun Openg said ASEAN needs a shared framework and platform to speed up regional energy grid integration, harmonising regulation and pricing between member states. Speaking at a fireside chat at GASTECH 2026 in Bangkok, he said Sarawak is ready to play a key role as an energy supplier and partner to ASEAN, including supplying surplus renewable power to Singapore and Brunei.

KKDW allocates RM1.8mil for solar LED street lights in 23 Kota Samarahan villages
The Rural and Regional Development Ministry is funding a RM1.8 million solar-powered LED street lighting project covering 23 villages in the Kota Samarahan parliamentary constituency. Deputy Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang said installations will focus on village roads, surau, halls, schools and junctions, with the Asajaya Zone component started on Sept 4 and due for completion by Nov 27.

Bridge Data Centres, operating in Malaysia since 2018, is expanding its data centre footprint across Cyberjaya, Johor and Kuala Lumpur. The company says nearly half its 2025 supply chain firms are Malaysian and it employs over 750 Malaysians, with plans to double its local workforce and offer starting salaries above RM5,000 for skilled roles.

Veterans group proposes renaming Sibu Jaya-Kong Yit Khim bypass after Kanang Langkau
A veterans association in Sarawak has proposed renaming the 8km Sibu Jaya-Kong Yit Khim bypass road after the late Temenggong Datuk Kanang Langkau, an Iban national hero. PVATM Sarawak president Jimbau Galau said the road, open more than a year, still lacks an official name and hopes the Sibu Rural District Council will consider the tribute.

'Ali' robot trialled at Little India MRT station
A 1.27-metre robot named 'Ali' was trialled by the Land Transport Authority at Little India MRT station on the Downtown Line from Aug 31 to Sept 11. Tamil Murasu asked commuters for their views; some said it was useful for children and tourists but questioned its value for the elderly and general public.

Madrid F1 circuit to be tweaked after drivers criticise overtaking
Organisers of the Spanish Grand Prix have told Formula 1 and the FIA they are ready to change the new Madring circuit near Madrid after drivers criticised it following its first race. Alex Albon called the race boring and Lando Norris said one section was useless, though team bosses praised the facility at the Ifema exhibition centre.

Kabang Water Intake upgrade 94 pct done, 21-day push to finish
The Kabang Water Intake upgrading project in Papar, Sabah has reached 94 per cent physical completion, with a 21-day acceleration plan to finish critical works. The upgrade will raise capacity from nine million to 30 million litres a day, serving as an alternative raw water source for the Limbahau Water Treatment Plant and the Emergency Water Supply Scheme. Officials including Papar MP Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali and Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Joachim Gunsalam inspected the site on Monday.

Bintulu Port now under Sarawak jurisdiction from Sept 1
Bintulu Port officially moved under the Sarawak state government's jurisdiction effective 1 September 2026, after previously holding federal port status. Bintulu Port Holdings Bhd told Bursa Malaysia the transition follows the enactment of Acts 858 and 859, with operations continuing under Bintulu Port Sdn Bhd via an interim agreement.

The launch was held alongside a two-day workshop in Kuching reviewing two BIMP-EAGA land transport MoUs. Sarawak Transport Minister Lee Kim Shin said the guidebook is a practical reference for operators on documents, permits and cross-border requirements.

NuEnergy to invest RM48.76m in 21MWp solar project on 49 government rooftops
NuEnergy Holdings Bhd will invest about RM48.76 million in rooftop solar photovoltaic facilities with a combined capacity of 21MWp across 49 government agency sites. Its subsidiary IL Energy will own the systems, while Armani Sinar accepted a letter of award on Sept 11 to act as strategic partner supplying modules and inverters. Completion is targeted for the second quarter of 2027, funded through internal funds and borrowings.

Siburan district proposal revived, RM5mil for multipurpose hall
A proposal to elevate Siburan in Sarawak to a full district has been revived, more than 10 years after it was first raised, citing its strategic location and growing population and economy. Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said the Siburan area, including Tapah and Beratok, could become a satellite town for Kuching and Serian. He also said the Siburan Multipurpose Hall has received RM5 million from the Sarawak government for renovation, an occupancy permit and extra parking.

Private vehicle inspection centre launched in Sungai Buloh
Transport Minister Anthony Loke launched the M.V.15 CARSOME Academy inspection centre in Sungai Buloh today. He said private inspection centres meeting JPJ standards can cut congestion and waiting times for vehicle ownership transfers to under 20 minutes. The government has also set a uniform price for M.V.15 inspections at all centres.

New pickup plaza opens at Chennai airport's Terminal 1
A new pickup point plaza costing Rs22.88 crore has opened at Chennai International Airport's Terminal 1. India's civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurated it by video link from Delhi on Sunday. Passengers now reach their vehicles 30 metres from the terminal instead of walking 600 metres.

Slope erosion at KM263.6 near Menora Tunnel fixed, route reopened, says Perak exco
A slope erosion on the North-South Expressway southbound near KM263.6, close to the Menora Tunnel and the Meru-Ipoh Utara stretch, was covered with waterproof sheeting and the route reopened within 24 hours. Perak exco Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said PLUS and the Malaysian Highway Authority are monitoring the site and drafting long-term measures including slope reinforcement, steel netting, satellite monitoring and CCTV. Heavy rain of 65mm, above the usual 40mm, was blamed for the erosion.

Sarawak village heads told to watch over KKDW solar LED lights
Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Rubiah Wang asked community and village heads to monitor solar LED street lights under the KKDW Sejahtera Project to prevent theft and vandalism. She spoke at a handover event at Pusat Penjaja MPKS in Asajaya, Kota Samarahan, and said the programme will be expanded in stages to Baram, Ulu Rajang, Bario and Kapit.
