Mandiri, HAYAT appoint lawyers to challenge bank account freeze
NGOs Mandiri and HAYAT will legally challenge the freezing of their bank accounts after claiming they received no clear explanation from authorities. Both organisations have appointed lawyers and say the freeze also affects the personal accounts of their executive directors. A press conference was held in front of Bukit Aman police headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

Former Buycar2u director charged with 71 counts of cheating RM4.7mil
A former director of a used-car trading company, Kee Cher Kian, 34, pleaded not guilty at three Sessions Courts in Kuala Lumpur to 71 cheating charges involving RM4.7 million. The charges relate to businessman Wong Yoong Jed and transactions at several bank branches in Kuala Lumpur between 5 July and 3 August 2022. The court set bail totalling RM215,000 with one surety and fixed mention for 16 October.

Police probe insider link in RM2.91 million robbery at Pavilion Embassy
Police are investigating whether an insider was involved in a group robbery that caused RM2.91 million in losses at a luxury condominium on Jalan Ampang on 7 September. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the case is linked to the victim himself, and police have identified suspects but made no arrests yet.

Jamil Khir among five charged in Kuala Lumpur over Tabung Haji funds
In Kuala Lumpur, former Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom pleaded not guilty to three charges involving RM860,308,770.51 of Tabung Haji funds. He is the latest of five people charged at the Sessions Court following the public release of the Tabung Haji RCI report in July.

Teen acquitted of schoolmate's murder after court finds him insane
The High Court in Shah Alam acquitted a 15-year-old boy of murdering his 16-year-old schoolmate at a secondary school in Bandar Utama last year, ruling he was of unsound mind at the time. Judge Adlin Abdul Majid ordered him detained and treated at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak at the pleasure of the Sultan of Selangor. His lawyer said the defence proved insanity under Section 84 of the Penal Code and the prosecution failed to rebut it.

Former religious affairs minister Jamil Khir Baharom was charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court on Sept 14 with misappropriating RM860 million from Tabung Haji, pleading not guilty and receiving RM300,000 bail. MIROS proposes regular health checks for elderly drivers
MIROS chairman Prof Dr Wong Shaw Voon suggested regular health screenings for drivers from age 40 as a condition for renewing licences. He said driving competence cannot be judged by age alone, and an age limit could create social risks for elderly drivers who remain fit. The proposal was made at MIROS headquarters in Kajang, while a driving institute operator in Segambut suggested practical training beyond 16 hours for elderly drivers.

Police: Viral Cyberjaya barrier push was done with Tamarind Square management's permission
A traffic policeman was filmed pushing open an automatic barrier at Tamarind Square in Cyberjaya while escorting the official convoy of Datuk Undang Luak Johol. Sepang police chief Norhizam Bahaman said the officer acted after the barrier failed to open and the premises management told him to push it manually, then restore it afterwards. No objections or complaints were received from either the escorted party or Tamarind Square management.

Man stabbed in the back while working at Kuala Lumpur Wholesale Market
A man in his 30s was stabbed in the back with a sharp metal object while working at the Kuala Lumpur Wholesale Market yesterday morning. He was taken to Selayang Hospital and is in stable condition, and police in Sentul are investigating the motive. A 47-second video of the injured man went viral on social media.

472 foreigners detained in Immigration raid at Lebuh Pudu
Kuala Lumpur Immigration detained 472 foreign nationals in an integrated enforcement operation at Lebuh Pudu, Kuala Lumpur today. About 2,500 foreigners were checked in the operation that began around 11am, involving nationals from Bangladesh, Myanmar, the Philippines, Nepal, Indonesia, Pakistan, India, China, Zimbabwe and Saudi Arabia. Those detained will be placed at the Bukit Jalil Immigration Depot for further investigation.

Immigration raid at Lebuh Pudu nets 472 undocumented foreigners
An integrated operation at Lebuh Pudu in Kuala Lumpur today detained 472 foreigners suspected of lacking valid documents after about 2,500 people were checked. The raid also uncovered premises believed to be a prostitution centre and a clinic run by a fake doctor. All those detained were taken to the Bukit Jalil Immigration Depot for further action.

Motorcyclist killed after being run over by lorry on Batang Kali-Ulu Yam road
A 60-year-old motorcyclist died after being run over by a lorry on Jalan Batang Kali-Ulu Yam in Hulu Selangor at about 7pm. The victim is believed to have swerved to avoid a pedestrian crossing the road before losing control and falling. Police are investigating under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Elderly man hits accelerator by mistake, three injured in Pandan Perdana
An 89-year-old man accidentally pressed the accelerator while parking his car at Jalan 4/8 Pandan Perdana, Ampang Jaya, yesterday. Three people - a motorcyclist, a flower seller and a pedestrian - were injured and sought treatment at a nearby hospital. Police are investigating the case under Rule 10 LN 166/59.

Kajang police hunt two men who fled check and rammed MPV
Police in Kajang are tracking two men who fled after being stopped for inspection by an MPV patrol unit on Jalan Semenyih near the Kajang Prima traffic lights yesterday afternoon. The green Proton Wira hit a Perodua Ativa before ramming the police MPV, damaging its front right door, but no one was injured. The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code and police are asking the public to come forward with information.

Former judge assault: textile tycoon and another ordered to enter defence
The Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court has ordered Gulati's Silk House owner Pavitar Singh Manjeet Singh and Nor Imran Nordin to enter their defence on charges of abetting grievous hurt against former judge Jagjit Singh Bant Singh. The screwdriver attack occurred near Solaris Dutamas on 19 Oct 2023 and is believed to have stemmed from a family dispute. Two other attackers were sentenced to seven years' jail after a prosecution appeal.

Police are still hunting the mastermind behind an armed robbery at a condominium in Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, in which a Chinese national lost RM2.9 million. The Wangsa Maju district police chief said investigations are ongoing and 12 witnesses have been questioned under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code.

Police seek public help to find missing 16-year-old girl in Kelana Jaya
A 16-year-old Malaysian Tamil girl, Mangala Kali Vigneswaran, has been reported missing from her home in Kelana Jaya, Selangor. She was last seen at 5.45am on September 11 in her school pinafore, and Petaling Jaya police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
