Safety operators keep watch as driverless shuttles run in Punggol
In Punggol, 24-year-old Sherman Seng works as a safety operator for Zig Driverless, a ComfortDelGro unit, monitoring autonomous shuttle rides that began in April. Grab to grow AV fleet to 50 vehicles, expand beyond Punggol
Grab will expand its autonomous vehicle fleet from 10 to 50 over the next six months and is preparing an on-demand point-to-point service in Punggol, with plans to extend to other parts of Singapore subject to regulatory approval. The company says its AVs have travelled over 110,000km and served more than 12,000 riders, and it is working with LTA on a depot and new AV roles.

Bangladeshi worker jailed 13 months, 2 weeks for Geylang fight and false robbery report
A 41-year-old Bangladeshi national was sentenced to 13 months and two weeks' jail after fighting an acquaintance near Lorong 14 Geylang and then falsely telling police he had been robbed of S$256 and his work permit. Bhuyan Md Ozzjal pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt and providing false information, with other charges taken into consideration. He had worked in Singapore for 16 years and hopes to keep working here.

Woman who set fire to Sembawang HDB doorway after breakup jailed five to six months
A 46-year-old woman set fire to the doorway of a 10th-floor HDB unit in Sembawang on June 30 after hallucinating that she was trapped following a breakup with her boyfriend. Woman sues Sheng Siong over trolley of rice bags hitting her foot

North-South Corridor enters toughest phase as hard rock and tight tunnels slow work

A 30-year-old Indonesian crew member was arrested at Keppel Entrance Crew Office in Singapore on August 9, 2026, after ICA officers found an elephant ivory tusk concealed inside a modified tumbler in his baggage. Shaping Hearts 2026, an annual inclusive arts event by North East CDC, is displaying over 200 works by artists with disabilities at Punggol Digital District from 12 to 27 September. Three traffic police officers under investigation after unsafe riding video goes viral
Three Singapore Traffic Police officers are being investigated after a dashboard camera video circulated online. The footage, said to be recorded at 3am on 4 September at Ubi Avenue 3, shows them riding unsafely, including cutting in front of a car and forcing the driver to brake suddenly. Police said appropriate action will be taken.

Toa Payoh coffee shop chef accused of stealing S$4,300, flees after confessing
A coffee shop stall owner in Toa Payoh went to look for his missing chef on Aug 27 and found bags used to store stall revenue at the man's home.
