S$3b money laundering case: first seized properties go to auction from Sep 17
The first batch of properties seized in Singapore's largest money laundering case will be auctioned this month, with 25 properties including a Suntec City office and a South Beach Residences penthouse among over 80 to be sold from September to mid-2027. Knight Frank holds its auction on Sep 17, while SRI and Edmund Tie hold theirs on Sep 23.

Tower Transit seeks four commuters who helped unresponsive bus driver in Hougang
A Tower Transit bus driver became unresponsive behind the wheel while approaching a bus stop in Hougang Avenue 3 on Sept 14. Four commuters and an SBS Transit driver helped stop the double-decker bus and call for an ambulance; the driver is in stable condition at Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Tower Transit is now trying to find the helpers to thank them.

Uzbek mother and son arrested over S$5,000 thefts at Changi Airport shops
A 39-year-old woman and her 16-year-old son from Uzbekistan were arrested for allegedly stealing about S$5,000 worth of items from shops in Changi Airport's transit area. The teenager faces six theft charges, while his mother faces one theft charge and one for receiving stolen property; both will be charged in court on Wednesday.

Woodlands residents douse corridor fire with hose and pails before SCDF arrives
A shoe rack in the eighth-floor common corridor of an HDB block in Admiralty Grove, Woodlands, caught fire on Sept 14. Neighbours used a home fire extinguisher, the communal hose and water pails to put out the flames before firefighters arrived, and no injuries were reported. The cause is under investigation.

Couple jailed for smuggling puppies from Malaysia to sell in Singapore
A couple has been jailed and fined in Singapore for keeping and selling puppies without a licence after smuggling them in from Malaysia. ICA officers found two Pomeranian puppies hidden in a friend's vehicle at Woodlands Checkpoint. The wife received 19 weeks and 3 days' jail plus a $5,000 fine, and her husband the same sentence.

A 28-year-old woman was sentenced to 19 weeks and three days' jail and fined S$5,000 for keeping illegally imported puppies in captivity for sale, in Singapore's first such case. She and her husband smuggled puppies from Malaysia and sold 21 of them for about S$21,000 between October and December 2023.

King Albert Park bungalow robbery: six jailed
Six men were jailed on Monday over an armed robbery at a luxury bungalow in Singapore's King Albert Park area in 2024, in which $4.9 million in assets were stolen. The gang fled Singapore immediately and moved the loot to Malaysia. A seventh suspect is still at large and is believed to be in Thailand.

Man jailed 13 weeks for driving while suspended, showing police another person's licence
A 31-year-old Singaporean man, Cheong Melvin, was sentenced to 13 weeks' jail, fined S$3,400 and disqualified from driving for five years after driving while suspended and showing police a screenshot of a former employee's driving licence. He had reversed into another car at Cardiff Grove in Serangoon Garden on Jan 26, 2025, and also abandoned a vehicle on an expressway after a separate crash.

At Joo Seng Road in Singapore, a man was filmed picking up a community cat and attempting to place it into a carrier in a car boot. NParks investigated and said he is a community cat caregiver who was trying to bring an injured cat to a veterinary clinic; the cat later escaped and was seen back in the neighbourhood.

Bangladeshi worker jailed 13 months, 2 weeks for Geylang fight and false robbery report
A 41-year-old Bangladeshi national was sentenced to 13 months and two weeks' jail after fighting an acquaintance near Lorong 14 Geylang and then falsely telling police he had been robbed of S$256 and his work permit. Bhuyan Md Ozzjal pleaded guilty to voluntarily causing hurt and providing false information, with other charges taken into consideration. He had worked in Singapore for 16 years and hopes to keep working here.

Woman who set fire to Sembawang HDB doorway after breakup jailed five to six months
A 46-year-old woman set fire to the doorway of a 10th-floor HDB unit in Sembawang on June 30 after hallucinating that she was trapped following a breakup with her boyfriend. The fire damaged her ex-boyfriend's unit and a neighbour's windows, forced about 30 residents to evacuate, and caused over $10,000 in repairs. She pleaded guilty to intentional arson and was sentenced to five to six months' imprisonment.

Woman sues Sheng Siong over trolley of rice bags hitting her foot
A woman who was shopping at a Sheng Siong supermarket says an employee pushed a trolley loaded with rice bags into her left foot and back, leaving bruises, swelling and heel injuries. She is seeking about S$11,000 in medical and transport costs, but the supermarket denies negligence and says she walked into the cart. The case is being heard in the State Courts.

Bukit Panjang condo MCST sues developer and four others over balcony concrete fall
The management corporation of Foresque Residences in Bukit Panjang is suing the developer, architect, structural engineer, railing engineer and subcontractor over alleged construction defects after a piece of concrete fell 20m from a third-floor balcony in February 2025. Tests later found about 60 per cent of balcony slab edges at Block 105 produced hollow sounds. The defendants have filed defences at the High Court denying liability.

Worker, 35, dies at Jurong Port Road site after being hit by compressed air hose
A 35-year-old construction worker died at a worksite at 37 Jurong Port Road on Sep. 11 after being struck by a hose connected to a compressed air pump during foundation works. The Ministry of Manpower identified Keller Foundations (S E Asia) Pte Ltd as occupier and employer, and has instructed the company to stop all concreting works while it investigates.

Pasir Ris bedroom fire: two taken to hospital, 20 evacuated
A fire broke out in the bedroom of an eighth-floor HDB flat at Block 722 Pasir Ris Street 72 on the morning of Sept 13. Two people were taken to Singapore General Hospital for smoke inhalation and about 20 residents were evacuated as a precaution. SCDF said preliminary findings point to an electrical origin and reminded the public about safe use of electrical appliances.

ICA seizes ivory tusk hidden in tumbler at Keppel Entrance, arrests Indonesian crew member
A 30-year-old Indonesian crew member was arrested at Keppel Entrance Crew Office in Singapore on August 9, 2026, after ICA officers found an elephant ivory tusk concealed inside a modified tumbler in his baggage. He was transiting through Singapore and was referred to NParks for investigation under the Endangered Species Act, which carries fines up to S$500,000 and six years' jail.

Worker dies after being struck by hose at Jurong Port Road worksite; MOM investigating
A 35-year-old worker died on Sept 11 after being struck by a hose connected to a compressed air pump at a construction site at 37 Jurong Port Road. The Ministry of Manpower has identified Keller Foundations (S E Asia) as the employer and occupier, and has ordered concreting works at the site to stop while it investigates. It is the second workplace death at a Jurong Port Road construction site in recent months, after a 23-year-old Bangladeshi worker was killed by falling scaffolding on Aug 3.

Three traffic police officers under investigation after unsafe riding video goes viral
Three Singapore Traffic Police officers are being investigated after a dashboard camera video circulated online. The footage, said to be recorded at 3am on 4 September at Ubi Avenue 3, shows them riding unsafely, including cutting in front of a car and forcing the driver to brake suddenly. Police said appropriate action will be taken.
