New-generation MyKad issuance begins at 40 NRD branches
The National Registration Department began issuing the new-generation MyKad today at 40 branches equipped with printing facilities, with cards ready the same day. At NRD Putrajaya, more than 300 people applied this morning against about 100 on a normal day, and the division director said the process ran smoothly with no problems so far.

High Court rejects adopted girl's citizenship bid over abandoned-baby rule
The High Court in Shah Alam dismissed a couple's bid to have their adopted daughter declared a Malaysian citizen by operation of law. Judicial commissioner Asmah Musa ruled the couple failed to show the girl was a newborn 'found exposed' under Section 19B of the Federal Constitution, since she was handed over directly in Klang rather than abandoned. The girl, born in Selangor in 2011, remains recorded as a non-citizen on her birth certificate.

Woman on drugs detained after attacking police with knife in Chan Sow Lin
A woman in her 20s was detained in Chan Sow Lin, Kuala Lumpur after acting aggressively and attacking a police officer with a knife. A urine screening tested positive for ketamine, and she has been remanded for four days under Sections 324 and 186 of the Penal Code.

Switch box fire cuts power to Jalan Riong eatery in Bangsar
A fire in an electrical switch box at a popular eatery on Jalan Riong in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, left the premises without electricity this afternoon. The Pantai fire and rescue station received a call at 1.11pm and the public put out the fire, which involved only the switch box. Business was halted pending restoration of power needed for the point-of-sale system.

50 participants from 38 countries join 66th MTHQA at WTCKL in October
Fifty participants from 38 countries will take part in the 66th International Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur from 6 to 10 October. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said Malaysia will be represented by four participants, with the event carrying the theme MADANI Dihayati, Ummah Diberkati and tied to Visit Malaysia 2026.

New MyKad applications jump 60pc on first day, JPN advises against FOMO
JPN Putrajaya recorded over 300 applications for the new-generation MyKad on its first day of rollout, a rise of about 60 per cent over the usual figure. The JPN identification card division director advised the public not to rush out of FOMO and to book appointments to avoid long waits. The new MyKad carries extra security features including a transparency window and a QR code readable only by enforcement agencies, and no longer includes the Touch 'n Go function.

Teen acquitted of Bandar Utama schoolmate's murder, sent to Ulu Kinta psychiatric hospital
The Shah Alam High Court on Monday acquitted a 15-year-old boy of murdering his 16-year-old schoolmate in a toilet at a secondary school in Bandar Utama last year, finding he was of unsound mind at the time. The judge ordered him detained at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak at the pleasure of the Sultan of Selangor. His lawyer said the family is relieved he will receive psychiatric treatment for severe schizophrenia.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court today dismissed influencer Papagomo's application to stay a RM280,000 defamation judgment in favour of Lim Guan Eng and his son. Judge Roslan Mat Nor ruled the defendant failed to show special circumstances for a postponement.

A signalling system disruption on the LRT Kelana Jaya Line caused delays this morning, with trains running manually between USJ 21 and Taipan stations. Appeals Court postpones additional witness testimony in Rosmah's appeal
The Court of Appeal in Putrajaya today allowed the prosecution's request to postpone the recording of additional testimony from a witness in Rosmah Mansor's appeal against her corruption conviction involving a RM1.25 billion hybrid solar project. A three-judge panel chaired by Justice Azhahari Kamal Ramli granted the postponement until the prosecution's appeal at the Federal Court is decided, and set October 7 for case management.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court has dismissed blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris's application to stay payment of RM280,000 in a defamation suit brought by Lim Guan Eng and his son. Judge Roslan Mat Nor said Wan Azri failed to show special circumstances, and ordered RM5,000 in costs. In May, the court found Wan Azri liable for defaming the Lim family in a 2020 Facebook post.

Four factories destroyed in Puchong industrial park fire
Four factories at Jalan TPP 5/15, Taman Perindustrian Puchong, were about 90 percent destroyed in an early morning fire. No casualties were reported and the fire was fully contained by 8.30am. The operation involved 33 fire personnel from several stations.

A hillside forest fire near the Desaminium Rimba Apartments in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, reignited last night after being put out earlier in the afternoon. Eight firefighters, a Light Fire Rescue Tender and an EMRS vehicle are on site, with a drone unit monitoring, but darkness and the lack of an access route are hampering the operation. The earlier blaze covered about two acres on the hilltop and was extinguished at 6.30pm with no casualties.
