Golden Destinations shareholders pass both acquisition resolutions at EGM
Golden Destinations Group Berhad held an extraordinary general meeting on 17 September 2026 at Hotel Royal Signature in Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. Shareholders voted unanimously in favour of both proposed acquisitions, with 892,451,926 shares supporting Resolution 1 and 892,449,926 supporting Resolution 2, and no votes against either.

MTHQA 66th edition to feature world calligraphy exhibition
A world Islamic calligraphy exhibition will be held alongside the 66th International Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA), said Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan. He said 266 participants from 133 countries were screened, with 50 top participants from 38 countries attending physically in Malaysia. The announcement was made at a pre-launch press conference for MTHQA 1448/2026 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur today.

Mother of school stabbing victim urges public to sign appeal petition
The mother of Yap Shing Xuen, a 16-year-old fatally stabbed at a school in Bandar Utama, Selangor, is urging the public to support a petition asking the Attorney-General's Chambers to appeal the court's decision. The appeal follows the Shah Alam High Court's acquittal of a 15-year-old boy on grounds of insanity on Sept 14.

High Court rejects adopted girl's citizenship bid over abandoned-baby rule
The High Court in Shah Alam dismissed a couple's bid to have their adopted daughter declared a Malaysian citizen by operation of law. Judicial commissioner Asmah Musa ruled the couple failed to show the girl was a newborn 'found exposed' under Section 19B of the Federal Constitution, since she was handed over directly in Klang rather than abandoned. The girl, born in Selangor in 2011, remains recorded as a non-citizen on her birth certificate.

PDRM uses AI, inter-agency cooperation to boost forensic investigations
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said AI and cross-agency cooperation will strengthen PDRM's forensic investigation capabilities. He spoke after opening the 7th National Forensic Science Symposium for Law Enforcement (NAFSLE) 2026 at the Royal Malaysia Police College in Kuala Lumpur, held on 17-18 September with 300 participants.

Woman on drugs detained after attacking police with knife in Chan Sow Lin
A woman in her 20s was detained in Chan Sow Lin, Kuala Lumpur after acting aggressively and attacking a police officer with a knife. A urine screening tested positive for ketamine, and she has been remanded for four days under Sections 324 and 186 of the Penal Code.

Switch box fire cuts power to Jalan Riong eatery in Bangsar
A fire in an electrical switch box at a popular eatery on Jalan Riong in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, left the premises without electricity this afternoon. The Pantai fire and rescue station received a call at 1.11pm and the public put out the fire, which involved only the switch box. Business was halted pending restoration of power needed for the point-of-sale system.

Pestec gets KL High Court injunction blocking Chinese supplier from enforcing guarantee
The Kuala Lumpur High Court has extended an injunction stopping China-based supplier Shandong Power Equipment Co Ltd from enforcing an undated corporate guarantee against Pestec International Bhd. The order holds until an Oct 9 hearing, as Pestec defends itself against a winding-up petition. Pestec shares fell half a sen to five sen.

50 participants from 38 countries join 66th MTHQA at WTCKL in October
Fifty participants from 38 countries will take part in the 66th International Quran Recitation and Memorisation Assembly (MTHQA) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur from 6 to 10 October. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan said Malaysia will be represented by four participants, with the event carrying the theme MADANI Dihayati, Ummah Diberkati and tied to Visit Malaysia 2026.

New MyKad applications jump 60pc on first day, JPN advises against FOMO
JPN Putrajaya recorded over 300 applications for the new-generation MyKad on its first day of rollout, a rise of about 60 per cent over the usual figure. The JPN identification card division director advised the public not to rush out of FOMO and to book appointments to avoid long waits. The new MyKad carries extra security features including a transparency window and a QR code readable only by enforcement agencies, and no longer includes the Touch 'n Go function.

Teen acquitted of Bandar Utama schoolmate's murder, sent to Ulu Kinta psychiatric hospital
The Shah Alam High Court on Monday acquitted a 15-year-old boy of murdering his 16-year-old schoolmate in a toilet at a secondary school in Bandar Utama last year, finding he was of unsound mind at the time. The judge ordered him detained at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta in Perak at the pleasure of the Sultan of Selangor. His lawyer said the family is relieved he will receive psychiatric treatment for severe schizophrenia.

The Malaysian and Australian armies have begun the 76th Haringaroo Exercise at Kem Sungai Buloh, Selangor, running until 28 September. The bilateral drill includes built-up area operations for the first time and involves 844 officers and personnel.

National doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky has prepared a backup plan involving Cheng Su Yin and Shevon Lai should Noraqilah Maisarah Ramdan be ruled out of the Asian Games team event in Aichi-Nagoya. FAM delegates vote to hold congress and elections despite ineligible electoral chairman
FAM delegates at a hotel in Petaling Jaya voted to proceed with an Extraordinary Congress and executive committee elections even though the Electoral Committee chairman and deputy do not meet the legal qualification required by the FAM Electoral Code. Congress chairman Windsor Paul warned the decision could be challenged at the Court of Arbitration for Sport, after Selangor FA raised a formal objection.

The High Court in Kuala Lumpur dismissed blogger Wan Azri Wan Deris's application to stay a RM280,000 defamation judgment in favour of Lim Guan Eng and his son. Justice Roslan Mat Nor found no special circumstances to justify the stay and ordered Wan Azri to pay RM5,000 in costs.

Four factories destroyed in Puchong industrial park fire
Four factories at Jalan TPP 5/15, Taman Perindustrian Puchong, were about 90 percent destroyed in an early morning fire. No casualties were reported and the fire was fully contained by 8.30am. The operation involved 33 fire personnel from several stations.

The earlier blaze covered about two acres on the hilltop and was extinguished at 6.30pm with no casualties.

Former inmate in Batu Caves earns a living as a tailor
Mohd Khairul Azam Mohd Halim, 45, who was held at Sungai Buloh, Kajang and Jelebu prisons on a drug offence, now runs Bengkel Jahitan Manisah in Kampung Sungai Kertas, Batu Caves with his wife. He learned tailoring while serving his sentence, including a Malaysian Skills Certificate course, and now takes orders for baju kurung, kebaya, baju Melayu and uniforms.
