Woman, 41, rescued from 16th-floor ledge at Rivervale Drive block in Sengkang
A 41-year-old woman was rescued after she was seen sitting on a low railing outside a 16th-floor HDB flat at Block 123B Rivervale Drive in Sengkang on Monday night. SCDF personnel came down by rope and caught her before she fell, after which she was taken to hospital and apprehended under the Mental Health (Care and Treatment) Act 2008.

Sabah marine police seize RM5.37m in untaxed cigarettes, liquor
Sabah's Region 4 Marine Police seized nearly RM5.37 million worth of untaxed cigarettes and liquor in three raids in Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu on 14 and 15 September. The first raid at an unregistered jetty by Sungai Seguntur in Sandakan detained a 45-year-old man and seized 1.82 million cigarettes, while a boat hidden in mangroves nearby yielded another 1.73 million. A separate operation at a warehouse in Kampung Dambai, Jalan Tuaran Bypass, seized 43,200 tins of liquor.

Four factories destroyed in Puchong industrial park fire
Four factories at Jalan TPP 5/15, Taman Perindustrian Puchong, were about 90 percent destroyed in an early morning fire. No casualties were reported and the fire was fully contained by 8.30am. The operation involved 33 fire personnel from several stations.

Singaporean woman seriously injured after being run over by bus in Taichung, Taiwan
A 67-year-old Singaporean woman was seriously injured after being run over by a bus in central Taichung, Taiwan, on 16 September while on holiday with her family. She suffered open fractures and a hip fracture, and her heartbeat was restored after she was rushed to hospital. Police have contacted Singapore's representative office in Taipei, and the cause of the accident will be determined by a forensic unit.

Jakarta police to summon Aisar Khaled and other witnesses in investment fraud probe
Jakarta Metropolitan Police will summon several witnesses, including Malaysian influencer Aisar Khaled, to assist an investigation into alleged investment fraud. The report was filed by a lawyer for a company claiming losses of about 5.7 billion Rupiah (RM1.6 million) under a February 2026 investment agreement.

22 Bintulu workplaces issued notices in two-day labour enforcement operation
The Sarawak Labour Department inspected 22 workplaces in Bintulu over two days and found all of them violating labour laws. Offences included employing non-resident workers without valid licences, breaching working hours, and failing to pay overtime wages. The department issued 22 notices and opened 45 investigation papers.

MACC: RM31.3bil of 1MDB funds recovered, 74.5pc of RM42bil
The head of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's anti-money laundering division, Datuk Norhaizam Muhammad, said the 1MDB scandal involved about RM42 billion channelled to the United States, Switzerland, Singapore, Luxembourg and the United Kingdom. The MACC reported that RM31.3 billion, or 74.5 per cent of the funds, was traced and returned to the Malaysian government.

The director of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's Anti-Money Laundering Division, Datuk Norhaizam Muhammad, explained the three stages of money laundering: placement, layering and integration. He said criminals hide illicit funds through staggered deposits, transfers between accounts and purchases of luxury assets before emerging as successful businessmen.

Melaka boy who lost right leg still dreams of becoming an astronaut
Muhammad Harraz Danial Mohamad Hairul Helmi, 10, lost his right leg in a crash in February last year while returning to his village in Jempol, Negeri Sembilan. His mother says it took him nearly three months to accept the change before he regained confidence through physiotherapy and counselling. He now attends school as usual and wants to become an astronaut.

Elderly OKU man injured, house 30 per cent burnt in Taman Boom Bak, Ipoh
An elderly man who is also a person with disabilities was injured in the leg when a house in Taman Boom Bak, Ipoh caught fire early this morning. Two other elderly residents in the house escaped unhurt. The victim was taken to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun for further treatment.

DKU accuses Negeri Sembilan exco of treason, coup attempt against Tuanku Muhriz
The Dewan Keadilan dan Undang Negeri Sembilan (DKU) has accused the Negeri Sembilan state executive council of treason and attempting to overthrow Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir. In a legal letter to Menteri Besar Datuk Ismail Lasim, DKU argued the April 19, 2026 proclamation relied on by the exco failed to meet the mandatory conditions under Article 10 of the Negeri Sembilan constitution and is therefore null and void. The exco had earlier announced that Tuanku Muhriz was removed and Tuanku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja'afar recognised as the new Yang di-Pertuan Besar.

Hillside forest fire near Desaminium Rimba Apartments in Seri Kembangan reignites
A hillside forest fire near the Desaminium Rimba Apartments in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, reignited last night after being put out earlier in the afternoon. Eight firefighters, a Light Fire Rescue Tender and an EMRS vehicle are on site, with a drone unit monitoring, but darkness and the lack of an access route are hampering the operation. The earlier blaze covered about two acres on the hilltop and was extinguished at 6.30pm with no casualties.

Court awards damages to whistleblower whose identity was leaked
The High Court in Kuala Lumpur has ruled in Norhaida binti Ramli v Majlis Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan, finding an enforcement agency liable for revealing a whistleblower's identity and awarding damages under the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010. It is the first reported monetary award of its kind under the Act.

Four masked men rob gold shop at Bakar Arang mall in Sungai Petani
Four masked men robbed a gold shop inside a mall in Bakar Arang, Sungai Petani, last night. Two suspects smashed three display cases and fled with jewellery while two waited outside on motorcycles; losses are estimated at between RM700,000 and RM1 million. Kuala Muda police are investigating under Sections 395 and 397 of the Penal Code.

Man arrested over RM476 pharmacy theft in Miri
A 30-year-old local man was arrested after allegedly stealing health and beauty products worth about RM476 from a pharmacy at Pelita Commercial Centre, Miri. He was picked up at Kampung Keluru Jaya in Bekenu and remanded for four days until Sept 19 to assist investigations under Section 380 of the Penal Code.

Miri police arrest man over air-conditioner compressor theft
A 37-year-old local man was arrested in Miri, Sarawak on suspicion of stealing an air-conditioner compressor in Bandar Baru Permyjaya. CCTV footage showed the incident happened around 4am last Monday, and the suspect was caught by the roadside at Lorong Desaras 1A, Tudan Fasa 6. The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.

Student from Kampung Bogag loses RM1,000 to SKMM, police impersonators
A 23-year-old student from Kampung Bogag in Bau, Sarawak, was cheated of RM1,000 by callers posing as SKMM and police officers who accused her of online gambling and money laundering. She transferred the money from her Bank Islam account on Sept 4 and lodged a police report at Bau police station on Sept 16. Bau police chief Supt Mohd Haide A Rahman said the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.

A 79-year-old man died after being struck by an MPV on Jalan Field Force in Batu Kawa, Kuching last night. The 36-year-old driver, who did not hold a valid licence, has been detained as police investigate under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Mother of school stabbing victim seeks appeal after classmate acquitted
A boy who was 15 when he stabbed and killed classmate Yap Shing Xuen, 16, in a school bathroom on 14 October 2025 has been acquitted of murder by the High Court, which found him of unsound mind. The victim's mother, Wong Lee Ping, posted a grieving Facebook tribute and launched a petition urging Malaysia's Attorney General to appeal the verdict.

A Singapore court sentenced a former fitness coach to 16 years in jail and 12 strokes of the cane for sexually abusing a 14-year-old student. The abuse began in 2022 and included incidents in hotel rooms and at a school camp, with the judge saying the offences were premeditated.

The Malaysian Consulate General in Jeddah advised Malaysians in Saudi Arabia to stay calm and follow authorities' instructions after emergency alerts were issued for Jeddah, Makkah and Taif. The alerts followed rising tensions with the Houthi group, and Saudi air defences intercepted a drone near Makkah on Tuesday.

19-year-old man gets 12 months' jail and caning for molesting sister
A 19-year-old man in Singapore was sentenced to 12 months' jail and one stroke of the cane after pleading guilty to molesting his sister, whom he had also sexually assaulted when he was 13. He is appealing the sentence and is out on bail.
