Appeals Court cuts Shafee's damages against Bar Council to RM120,000
The Court of Appeal in Putrajaya reduced the damages awarded to senior lawyer Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah in his suit against the Malaysian Bar and two others from RM340,000 to RM120,000. A three-judge panel unanimously allowed part of the Bar's appeal and dismissed Shafee's cross-appeal to raise the sum.

16 drownings in Pahang this year, fire dept urges caution
The Pahang Fire and Rescue Department has recorded 16 drowning deaths across the state so far this year. Its assistant operations director, Mohd Salahuddin Isa, urged the public to heed warning signs, avoid red-flagged areas and watch for headwater surges at rivers, waterfalls and beaches. He also advised against jumping in to rescue victims, recommending the Reach, Throw, Row, Go method or calling 999.

Perak vehicle ownership document forgery: five intermediaries' remand extended to Sept 18
Five people suspected of acting as intermediaries for a syndicate forging vehicle ownership documents and bribing enforcement officers in Perak have had their remand extended to Sept 18. The Ipoh Civil Magistrate's Court granted the extension after an application by Perak MACC. The case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.

Mother of slain schoolgirl writes Facebook tribute to daughter
In Kuala Lumpur, the mother of a schoolgirl killed in October 2025 has written a Facebook post titled 'The story of me and my daughter', recalling their weekends together, the girl's disciplined nature and her plans for the future. She said 14 October 2025 was the darkest day of her life and that she is learning to live with the pain.

Lorry driver killed by falling rock at Keramat Pulai quarry
A 53-year-old lorry driver, M. Sivakumar, was killed when a rock crushed his vehicle at a quarry in Keramat Pulai, Kampung Kepayang near Simpang Pulai, Perak. Fire and rescue personnel from Simpang Pulai and Gopeng extricated him using hydraulic equipment, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two boys drown after falling into drain in Kulim
Two 12-year-old boys drowned after falling into a drain at Taman Desa Kayangan, Sungai Karangan, Kulim, last night. Two other children, aged eight and 11, also fell in and were taken to hospital for treatment. Kulim police received a report of the incident at about 7.30pm.

Bukit Aman: Don't take Rohingya issue into your own hands, report to police
Bukit Aman has urged the public and social media influencers not to take matters into their own hands over the Rohingya community, and to report concerns to the authorities instead. Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department director Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said acting on emotion could disrupt public order, and that existing laws must be followed. Factory bus plunges into drain near Jalan Tun Dr Awang roundabout, driver hurt
A factory bus crashed through a road divider and fell into a three-metre-deep drain near the Jalan Tun Dr Awang roundabout in Penang during evening peak hour. The 49-year-old driver was trapped and later extricated by firefighters before being taken to Penang Hospital.

Remand of five 'middlemen' in vehicle ownership document forgery syndicate extended four days
The remand of five individuals suspected of acting as middlemen in a syndicate forging vehicle ownership transfer documents has been extended by four days until 18 September. They were brought to the Ipoh Magistrate's Court today after an earlier six-day remand. The case also involves 11 individuals including six JPJ officers detained at the Perak MACC office.

Penang council uses crane vehicle to remove abandoned cars
The Penang Island City Council is using a multi-purpose loader with a crane, acquired in 2022, to remove abandoned vehicles that ordinary tow trucks cannot handle, such as those without tyres or wedged between cars. Mayor Datuk A. Rajendran said the equipment is not used for routine illegal parking cases, and the council has other vehicles for conventional towing. The practice drew attention online after a motorist's post, and Seri Delima assemblyman Connie Tan said abandoned vehicles have been cleared over two weeks with MBPP and other agencies.

Singapore police: $71,000 lost in 12 job scams tied to Pokemon cards
Singapore police say at least $71,000 was lost in 12 job scam cases linked to Pokemon and other trading cards between Aug 25 and Sept 14. Victims were offered remote online tasks, then told to transfer cryptocurrency to unlock higher payouts, and could not withdraw their money. Pokemon card scam cases rose to 605 in the first half of 2026 from 279 a year earlier, with $1.2 million lost.

A man in his 40s has been remanded after allegedly kicking his daughter at an eatery in Telipot, Kota Baru. He surrendered at the Kota Baru police station following a viral video of the incident, and the case is being investigated under the Child Act 2001.

Three crew rescued after motor sailer sinks off Southeast Sulawesi
Three crew members of the KLM Boine Bai Mole were rescued on Monday after their motor sailer was hit by waves and sank off Poleang in Bombana regency, Southeast Sulawesi. The vessel had left Bulukumba in South Sulawesi for Luwuk in Central Sulawesi when it was struck at about 10.14pm on Sunday. The three were taken to Pomalaa harbour jetty in Kolaka regency.

MACC officer tells court no immunity deal with Azman in Muhyiddin trial

Box with toy blocks destroyed by bomb squad in Bandar Baru Sri Petaling

Delivery rider arrested in Temerloh with drugs, imitation pistol
Police in Temerloh arrested a 29-year-old delivery rider after finding an imitation pistol and drugs worth about RM1,000 in his car at Paya Keladan on Sept 12. The man, from Bera, tested positive for drugs and has been remanded until Sept 15 under the Dangerous Drugs Act and Arms Act.

Malaysian jailed in Singapore for driving SMS blaster that sent 10,000 phishing texts
A 28-year-old Malaysian man, Ong Kak Seng, was sentenced in Singapore to one year and nine months' jail and a S$1,500 fine for driving around the island with an SMS blaster that sent over 10,000 phishing messages. He was paid RM1,000 a day by a man known as Bai Ge to operate the device, which mimicked mobile networks to push messages to nearby phones. He pleaded guilty to cheating as part of a criminal conspiracy.

Malaysian jailed 21 months in Singapore for blaster-device phishing scam
A 28-year-old Malaysian man, Ong Kak Seng, was sentenced in Singapore to one year and nine months' jail and a $1,500 fine after driving around the island with a "blaster device" that sent over 10,500 phishing messages to WhatsApp accounts between October and November 2025. He was promised RM1,000 a day by a man known as "Bai Ge" and carried out the scheme to pay off RM80,000 in unlicensed moneylender debts. One victim lost more than $1,800.

Woman who exploited two underage girls for prostitution to be assessed for reformative training; client jailed four weeks
A 20-year-old woman in Singapore pleaded guilty on Sept 14 to three charges including recruiting a person for exploitation and living on the earnings of prostitution, after exploiting two girls aged about 16. She will return to court on Oct 22 for a reformative training suitability report. One customer, Syahirul Daud Abdul Razak, 26, was sentenced to four weeks' jail for obtaining sexual services from the younger girl.

Businesswoman fined RM20,000 for tampering with SE meter at Penampang store
A 40-year-old businesswoman was fined RM20,000 by the Sessions Court in Kota Kinabalu after pleading guilty to tampering with a Sabah Electricity meter at her grocery store in Penampang. The court heard a bypass cable was found behind the meter, causing RM10,648.02 in revenue losses between October 2024 and January this year.
